Party like you're in Far Far Away with Shrek and Donkey at a movie-themed rave in Des Moines

Somebody once told me the world would have a “Shrek” rave.

OK, that’s not quite how the lyrics to “All Star” by Smash Mouth goes — but make no mistake, it’d be impossible for a “Shrek” rave not to play the song so intertwined with the animated movie.

Right?

So, get your green on and grab your fairytale friends and party like you're in Far Far Away when Wooly’s hosts a “Shrek” rave on Feb. 23, a party inspired by the popular animated franchise about an ogre.

Here’s everything you need to know if you want to go.

What is a ‘Shrek’ rave?

“Shrek” raves aren’t exclusive to Wooly’s. Cities across America are hosting these parties, with events taking place in Louisiana, Minneapolis, Texas, California and more during March.

Expect guests to dress up as characters from “Shrek,” such as Princess Fiona to Lord Farquaad. Then, just have fun partying and bonding over the movies that so many love, and so many people like to create memes of (spanning from funny to uncomfortable).

The events usually feature EDM or dance music.

What is ‘Shrek’ the movie?

The 2001 animated movie from DreamWorks Animation follows a green ogre named Shrek, voiced by Mike Myers, who lives in a swamp. He and his companion, Donkey, go on a journey to rescue Princess Fiona who has a secret of her own. It won an Academy Award for best animated feature and has endured in pop culture through sequels, memes and a musical.

How many ‘Shrek’ movies are there?

There are four feature-length films:

• “Shrek”

• “Shrek 2”

• “Shrek the Third”

• “Shrek Forever After”

There are also several “Shrek” specials including “Shrek the Halls,” and the feature-length spin-off movies, “Puss in Boots,” about the outlaw orange cat named Puss.

What time does the ‘Shrek’ rave start?

The party is at 9 p.m. Doors open at 8 p.m.

How much are tickets for the ‘Shrek’ rave in Des Moines?

Tickets can be purchased on axs.com for $25. Tickets can also be purchased from 12-5 p.m. on Friday at the Wooly's box office. In-person sales don't have fees, but are cash only.

The event is limited to those 21 years or older.

Where is Wooly’s in Des Moines located?
