At Paris Fashion Week, the autumn / winter 2024 collections have been strongly influenced by the 1960s — quite notably at Dior — and it’s no different for French luxury shoe brand Roger Vivier. Holding its presentation at a different-than-usual location in Paris, at the Maison de l’Amérique Latine, the brand welcomed guests with a long glamorous red carpet at the entrance.

Camille Razat from Emily In Paris stopped in to see the new “Vivier Op-tical”-themed collection, while iconic French actress Catherine Deneuve caused a stir as she stopped in with cameras following her. Other guests included actresses Kelly Rutherford and Naomie Harris, model Paris Jackson and Spanish model Rossy de Palma.

Entering the hotel, guests immediately noticed black and white patterns, from the chess flooring to the striped optical illusions of spiral vortexes, all of which called to mind the intro of the late 1950s/early 1960s television show The Twilight Zone.

One of the first items on display was the Viv’ Choc handbag, a new creation by Gherardo Felloni, the brand’s creative director. Done in black and white monochrome, it’s adorned with leather-and-check tweed and patchwork styles.

Each season, the house excels at setting up immersive experiences to engage guests with innovative displays of its shoes, handbags, jewelry and accessories. This time, Felloni put a focus on founder Roger Vivier’s mid-century designs along with his paper collages.

“The 1960s marked a pivotal period for Roger Vivier, when his aesthetic shifted towards a more sleek, graphic and pioneering design approach,” says Felloni in collection notes. “Reimagining the timeless creations of this era has long been my aspiration, and I sensed that the moment was right to reintroduce them in fresh, contemporary renditions this season.”

The Belle Vivier shoe, a house icon of Monsieur Vivier from the 1960s, is reimagined. The op art movement is palpable in the shoe with its kaleidoscope pattern of graphic and leather stripes, as well as the zebra print, Felloni’s nod to visual optics in play. And returning is the Viv’ Canard shoe with the sweetest kitten heel, complete for the first time with the house’s classic buckle.

On the first floor, in the back corner of the hotel, there also was a small cafe, a fashion-week usual for the house. And, oh la la, it was a beaut with pink walls, large floral arrangements and Parisian cafe tables and chairs. Outside was a similar set up with cafe chairs and park benches overlooking a green lawn. Ever Parisian chic and feminine, this new collection is daring and groovily stylish.
