Being a mom isn’t easy. Just ask Jennifer Garner, whose kids have a mean nickname for her. Garner has shared before that her kids are her toughest critics, but in an interview with Jimmy Fallon on Thursday, she shared that her three children, Violet, 13, Seraphina, 10 and Samuel, 7, have officially dubbed her the “fun-killer.”

“I kill the fun,” she said. “I am so lame. I say no to everything. They call me the dragon, they have all these nicknames for me.” The proof is in the pudding, apparently, as Fallon showed Garner a photo from her Instagram, written by one of her daughters. “When I grow up, I want to be a fun-killing mom, just like you!” the handwritten note said. Wow, tough crowd.

Jennifer is trying to turn it all around, though. Inspired by Amy Krouse Rosenthal’s children’s book, Yes Day! (which Jennifer is also adapting into a film), Garner gives her kids one day out of the year where she’ll say yes to anything. The catch? All three kids have to agree. As Garner explained, “Having three kids, they have different ideas. A 13-year-old and a 7-year-old have a different idea about what they’d like to get out of ‘Yes Day.’ They have to agree, because it’s just one day for everyone. So the one thing they can agree on is basically making an asshole out of me.”

Jennifer has always received praise for her parenting, especially as she co-parents her three children with ex-husband Ben Affleck. And though her kids are open to criticizing her, she’s just as happy being a dorky mom, dressing up in full How to Train Your Dragon regalia for son Samuel’s 7th birthday.

She’s found her groove in the wake of the split with Affleck, cultivating an affable and understandable personality. When pregnancy rumors hit her earlier this year, she took to social media with the greatest denial: dipping cookies in wine. Jennifer’s trio might not appreciate her fun-killing ways, but she’s definitely a cool mom in our book.
