The official logline for “Parasyte: The Grey” reads: “When unidentified parasites violently take over human hosts and gain power, humanity must rise to combat the growing threat.”

The elusive description is slightly explained further in the below teaser, where an extraterrestrial being recalls how they came to Earth with “one goal in mind”: to parasitize the human race to live side by side with people. A full out war ensues to uncover who is a parasite and who is a human.

The plot revolves around Su-in (Jeon So-nee), a woman grappling with her new reality of coexisting with a parasite, and the relentless Team Grey, a group committed to fighting against these unidentified parasitic life-forms led by Jun-kyung (Lee Jung-hyun). Amidst this looming situation, Kang-woo (Koo Kyo-hwan) is shown in the middle of his search for his missing sibling while hiding from a parasite hunting him.

The series is based on manga comic “Parasyte” by Hitoshi Iwaaki, published by Kodansha. Yeon Sang-ho and Ryu Yong-jae cowrote the adaptation, with Climax Studio and WOW POINT behind the production.

Yeon directed a “Train to Busan” sequel titled “Peninsula” coming off of the 2016 Korean hit horror movie. Yeon’s slated Netflix series “Hellbound” was announced in 2020.

Yeon directed the series based on the Korean webtoon “Hell” that followed a group of supernatural beings that start condemning people to hell. A new religious group rises up in society on the belief these beings are sent from God. Yeon developed the script with illustrator Choi Gyu-seok, an artist known for the webtoon “Songgot” in Korea, which was adapted into a TV drama in 2015. The series made history as the first Korean drama to debut at TIFF; the show launched on Netflix in November 2021 and surpassed “Squid Game” as the most-watched series for a day. A second season was confirmed in 2023.

“Parasyte: The Grey” premieres April 5 on Netflix. Check out the teaser below.
