Paramore's Hayley Williams Responds to Repeated Technical Issues During Concert: 'Somebody's Getting Fired'

The band was performing in Australia on Monday night when the issues arose

Paramore had some "hard times" during a recent concert.

While performing in Melbourne at the Rod Laver Arena on Monday night — the first of three shows in the city — the Nashville alt-pop trio experienced some technical difficulties that prompted lead vocalist Hayley Williams to improvise an awkward response.

The "Misery Business" group, which features Williams, 34, guitarist Taylor York and drummer Zac Farro, was playing their hit "Hard Times" from their fifth studio album After Laughter when the pyrotechnics used during the show sparked at the wrong time, per fan-captured footage posted on X (formerly known as Twitter).

In one video, Williams can be seen nervously laughing as the technical glitches happen before she changes the lyrics of the outro to "Hard Times" to “Somebody’s getting fired / Beyoncé did it so we can too / and I can’t wait to speak with you / it’s the third time this has happened to us."

Paramore is currently in the midst of the Australian leg of their tour in support of their latest album This Is Why.

In 2024, they’ll join their longtime friend Taylor Swift on the European leg of her Eras Tour.

Last month, the band released Re: This Is Why, a new version of their 2023 album with remixed and rewritten tracks, on Friday.

For the LP, Paramore enlisted a handful of rising artists: Teenage punks and their past tour mates The Linda Lindas, British group Wet Leg, pop breakout and one of Olivia Rodrigo’s upcoming tour openers Remi Wolf, indie rocker Bartees Strange, Julien Baker of Boygenius fame and Claud, who is signed to Phoebe Bridgers’ record label Saddest Factory. Jazz duo DOMi & JD BECK, who were nominated for best new artist at the 2023 Grammys,

Also featured on the record are indie artists including Foals, Panda Bear and Romy of The XX, as well as producer/TV host Zane Lowe.

Paramore shared a statement about the remix album on Instagram along with the album art.

“We’ve long wanted to recognize the connection we have with some of the artists who’ve influenced us as a band and/or who have cited our band as an influence," they wrote.

“Re: This Is Why is almost a remix album,” the pop-punkers continued. “Some of the songs have been remixed sort of classically, while others were reworked or rewritten. It’s incredible to hear all our worlds colliding. Out 10/6.”

Paramore dropped their first album in six years —This Is Why — in February.
