Pantera rang in what would have been the late Dimebag Darrell’s 57th birthday during their show on Sunday (August 20th) in Austin, Texas.

It was fitting that the reunited metal legends were performing in Dimebag’s home state of Texas on the late guitarist’s actual birthday. During a break in the concert, Philip Anselmo and company were joined onstage by Lamb of God’s Randy Blythe and Dimebag’s longtime girlfriend Rita Haney for a round of the guitarist’s favorite drink, a “black-tooth grin”: whiskey with a splash of Coca-Cola.

After Blythe rolled out a beverage cart, Haney began passing out the shots — ostensibly some non-alcoholic, for the sober members of the tour party — Anselmo led the crowd in a round of “Happy Birthday.”

Pantera have treated the Texas leg of their North American tour as an extended tribute to Dime, having recently brought Blythe and Haney onstage for a rendition of “Walk” during a show in Woodlands last Thursday (August 17th). It marked another moment of reconciliation between Anselmo and Haney (the two having feuded in the past after Anselmo made disparaging remarks about Dimebag in an interview shortly before the guitarist was killed by a crazed gunman onstage in December 2004).
