First announced nearly three years ago, Panera Bread is targeting a summer opening for its bakery-café at Brooklyn Place, where it will join Chipotle and Bento Asian Kitchen + Sushi.

Located at 10 Riverside Ave., Panera will be the latest addition to a lineup of restaurants in the Riverside corridor of Brooklyn serving the growing population of nearby office workers as well as hundreds of new residents at neighboring 220 Riverside, Vista Brooklyn and The Brooklyn Riverside apartment units.

It’s also across the street from the planned $250 million One Riverside mixed-use development, which calls for 270 apartments, a riverfront restaurant, a Whole Foods Market and other retail space.

Among the other restaurants in the corridor are Burrito Gallery, Vale Food Co., Zoes Kitchen, Mayday Ice Cream, BurgerFi, First Watch and Anejo Cocina Riverside. Further west, you’ll find Arepa Please and Tossgreen. And work is expected to begin this year at The HUB Brooklyn, a mixed-use development featuring a new restaurant, coffeehouse and an artisan bakery: Alder & Oak, Southern Grounds & Co. and Blueberry Bakery. If you don't know Ellianos Coffee, you soon will

You may not be familiar with Ellianos Coffee, but soon, you’ll see more and more of the standalone, double-lane drive-thru gourmet coffee shops popping up across Jacksonville.

With two area stores already open at 1125 Lane Ave. S. on the Westside and 301 Blanding Blvd. in Orange Park, the Lake City-based chain is planning up to 9 locations in Jacksonville including the following identified on the company’s website: 3770 Blanding Blvd., 8781 Old Kings Road South and 619 Chaffee Road South.

Other locations are planned on University Boulevard near HCA Memorial Hospital as well as Saint Johns, Fernandina Beach, Yulee and Amelia Island.

Ellianos offers gourmet and specialty coffees, espressos and lattes as well as fruit smoothies, teas and coffee freezers. Food options include pastries, cookies, brownies, breakfast bowls, bagels, muffins and sandwiches — all freshly made.

A taste of summer now available in San Marco

Just in time for summer, San Marco Dreamette has opened, bringing the taste of the Murray Hill landmark’s signature dipped cones, sundaes and milkshakes to San Marco.

After discovering the original following their move to Jacksonville from New York state, Brian and Deanne Roes have opened their Dreamette at 1905 Hendricks Ave., in the former Bold Bean Coffee spot, under an operating agreement with the owners of the Murray Hill mainstay. That means you’ll find all of your favorite soft-serve ice cream treats made with the same secret recipes.

The shop, painted in blue and white like the original, includes walk-up windows and a penny floor, made with thousands of pennies – and a lot of glue.

More cocktails, please

Thanks to a new law signed this week, you could begin to see some downtown-area restaurants add cocktails to their menus.

That’s because the new bill reduces the threshold for obtaining a license to sell liquor from a minimum of 100 seats and a floor space of 1,800 square feet to a new minimum of 50 seats and 1,000 square feet – as long as the restaurant derives at least 51% of its gross food and beverage revenue from the sale of food and nonalcoholic beverages.

The law also creates the Kings Avenue Commercial Corridor, which includes buildings facing the roadway from Prudential Drive on the Southbank to Atlantic Boulevard in San Marco. There, restaurants meeting the lower threshold, too, will be allowed to obtain the special licenses.
