During Paris Fashion Week this past month, Pamela Anderson undeniably turned heads. And though that means most of the time some extravagant outfit or colorful makeup look, this time she stood out because of the exact opposite: going makeup-free. That’s right, the Baywatch star opted for a totally natural looks while attending fashion shows for top brands like Victoria Beckham, Vivienne Westwood, and so on.

“I didn’t come to Paris Fashion Week and think: ‘I’m not going to wear any makeup’ but something just came over me and I was dressing in these beautiful clothes and I thought, ‘I don’t want to compete with the clothes,'” Anderson revealed in a new interview with Vogue France.

In addition to not competing with the clothes, being her natural self meant not competing with anyone else either. “I’m not trying to be the prettiest girl in the room,” she said, while preparing for the Vivienne Westwood show.

“I feel like it’s just a freedom,” she admitted, “It’s like a relief.”

In the Get Ready With Me-style video, Anderson explained that fashion week looked quite different for her compared to most other celebs. “I don’t have a stylist, I don’t have a glam team,” she revealed. “I’m just kind of doing this freestyle.”

“It’s almost noon and the show is at one,” she said, totally makeup-free and in her bathrobe. “I let my hair dry naturally and I just put on some moisturizer because I’m not into the makeup look right now.”

Anderson continued, explaining that choosing to go makeup-free even runs in the family “My mom always told me, ‘At some point in your life, you’re not gonna want makeup on your skin,'” Anderson told the camera. “And she’s right!”

Most of all, it seems like Anderson was happy to be breaking down barries and the unreachable ideals that women, and women in her industry, are held up to. “As a woman, and as a woman of my age and a woman in the public eye, I just think it’s also your job to be a model of everything so I am just being me,” she said.

“You kind of have to challenge beauty sometimes,” the Love, Pamela author continued. “If we all chase youth or we’re chasing our idea of what beauty is in fashion magazines then we are all going to be disappointed or maybe a little bit sad.”

“I think I’m happiest that I’ve ever been in my own skin,” Anderson concluded. “It’s what is inside the clothes that counts and I think beauty does come from within.”

Just like us, fans of Anderson are applauding her for her bold and fearless beauty statement. “The joys of aging: becoming yourself unapologetically,” one Youtube commenter wrote. “Well done, Pam! ❤”
