Pamela Anderson Just Broke Down the Refreshing Reason Behind Going Makeup-Free

By now, we all know that Pamela Anderson has entered a new era. By giving up makeup in major events, she’s ditching all the rules of being a celebrity and writing her own handbook. And while she isn’t the first celebrity to go makeup-free, her decision has started a movement, and she’s finally sharing the root of it all.

“I was doing it for the girls,” the actress told CR Fashion Book as their newest cover star. “I just think, the social media world and the fantasy, especially in fashion and film, those places are escapism, but this everyday stuff… I felt like It’s okay to just be. And more interesting.”

In other words, Anderson wanted to show the world, especially little girls watching, that people look different than everything we see on TV or social media. People are real with flaws and texture, just like them.

“I remember back in the Playboy days, I would go to the Playboy Mansion and there would be so many different kinds of beauty, different hair, different makeup, different bodies, different experiences, different tones of voice, different lipstick colors,” Anderson remembered. “Everyone was different.”

Now, however, she feels the opposite. “I almost feel like now we’re all morphing into this kind of similar-looking,” she admitted. “To be brave is contagious. And I found that it resonated even though it wasn’t my real intention to make a big statement. And I’m glad that it had a positive message. It’s not world peace or anything, but it was a little moment.”

While she might not change the world, we’re sure Anderson’s message will be heard, and surely inspire many women and girls to be themselves.

And speaking of girls, Anderson went on to explain that she sees her niece’s experience with the downfalls of social media firsthand. “I see my niece, she holds her phone, takes a picture, and within the same second, she’s already edited it somehow,” Anderson added. “Does she even know what she really looks like? Does anybody know what they look like?”

“And, yes, I know, it’s kind of a phase, it’s a time and space,” she added. “This is where we are right now. And I think in the fashion world it’s interesting to not feed into it.”

“I think it’s an interesting time to push norms and push boundaries because it’s all just so heightened,” the memoir author continued. “You look at these people with all these Instagram followers and all these people that have so much power and a lot of it is superficiality. I’m very, very fortunate that I can [do my own thing] a little bit.”

If you ask us, her era is far from little, and is quite monumental!
