Pamela Anderson is going for laughs.

Anderson, 56, is set to costar with Liam Neeson in the upcoming reboot of The Naked Gun, PEOPLE can confirm. News first broke in February that Neeson, 71, will star in the film.

The crime-comedy series was famously led by the late Leslie Nielsen, who died at 84 in 2010. Neeson is expected to take over Nielsen's role as police officer Frank Drebin.

Anderson will play a love interest role similar to Priscilla Presley, who costarred in the series' three films released between 1988 and 1994. Naked Gun originated as a 1982 television series titled Police Squad! starring Nielsen before adapting into a trilogy of movies. They center around the humorous law enforcement officer Drebin and function as a spoof of American crime films.

Neeson, known best for his roles in dramatic films (Schindler's List) and dozens of action movies (Taken), admitted in a recent interview with ComingSoon.net that he is "slightly nervous" to prove he can carry a comedy with the upcoming reboot.

"A little Stephen Colbert sketch or Ricky Gervais, I’m okay because it’s short," he said at the time. "But a whole film, we’ll see. We’ll see.”

Former Saturday Night Live writer Akiva Schaffer is co-writing, executive producing and directing the upcoming film; Seth MacFarlane is also among its producers, while screenwriters Dan Gregor and Doug Mand are also writing the script with Schaffer, 46.

“It’s a good script,” Neeson told the outlet recently. “We’re still in the casting process for the other parts, but the script, there’s some very funny laugh out loud moments."

Anderson most recently received a screen acting credit for the 2022 horror movie Alone at Night; she also made her Broadway debut that year during a limited engagement as Roxie Hart in Chicago. Aside from the leading role in the Naked Gun reboot, Anderson will next appear on the big screen in the upcoming film The Last Show Girl, from filmmaker Gia Coppola.

The next Naked Gun movie is scheduled to release July 18, 2025.
