Paloma Taco & Tequila to open second location in Bay View

Plans are underway for a second location of a popular Washington Heights taqueria.

Paloma Taco & Tequila will open another location in retail space on the ground level of the KinetiK Apartments building, 2154 S. Kinnickinnic Ave. in Bay View, adding another dining option to the bustling northern corridor of Kinnickinnic Avenue.

Owner Pattie Ford said she looks forward to having more space to work with after the success of Paloma’s first location at 5419 W. North Ave. in Washington Heights, which opened in July 2020.

That location will stay, but Ford said she’s excited to have another place to serve customers.

“It’s been really busy and overwhelming,” Ford said. “This will give us a kitchen we can work with a little bit more, just to help with the volume we’ve been doing in our current space."

Ford said Paloma could be open in the first quarter of 2024.

Hours will be expanded, as well. Ford plans to keep the restaurant open seven days a week and serve brunch Fridays through Tuesdays.

“We’ll have an emphasis on our Monday brunch so we can be open for the service industry,” she said.

When the restaurant opens, customers can expect to see their favorites from the menu at the Washington Heights location, including bean and queso dip, multiple taco styles, burritos, tortas, tostadas and desserts. A bar will serve cocktails, mocktails and beer.

Being on the ground floor of a large apartment building in a high-traffic area of Bay View, Ford expects the restaurant to be busy from the start.

“We want to start with what we know and what we can execute well,” she said. But eventually she’d like to open the menu to new options, especially enchiladas.

“My chef and sous chef make better enchiladas than I’ve ever had anywhere else,” she said.

Three Sixty Design, which designed Paloma’s Washington Heights space, as well as area restaurants such as 1033, Uncle Wolfie’s, Centraal Grand Café & Tappery, Hacienda Taproom and Dandan, will design the interior for the Bay View location.

“I’ve seen some designs, and it’ll be stunning,” Ford said.

Customers can also count on outdoor seating on the restaurant’s patio, which will be adjacent to Bay View’s Zillman Park. The park is slated to undergo an extensive renovation beginning this summer.

“This has been in the works since February,” Ford said. “I’m so excited it’s finally happening.”
