Paloma Faith joins Kyle Meredith to talk about her new album, The Glorification of Sadness, which chronicles the stages of grief she faced while going through a divorce. Listen to the new episode above, or wherever you get your podcasts.

The English singer and actress reveals the emotional stories behind the songs on her new LP, which feature such titles as “Eat Shit and Die.” Reflecting back to the place that she was in during the creation of The Glorification of Sadness, Faith recalls warning her management of her fragile state, discovering that happiness is a ridiculous expectation, and the time her label asked how they could turn her pain into a commodity.

“I played one of the songs from the album called ‘Divorce,’ and it’s the saddest one for me to hear because I think it’s the rawest,” she remembers. “And the head of the [record label] said, ‘How can we turn this into entertainment?’ It was like a steak through the heart.”

In addition to diving into The Glorification of Sadness, Faith also teases her upcoming book, which explores being a woman in a post-feminist world.
