Palm Beach Symphony gets two regional Emmy Award nominations for children's concert

Palm Beach Symphony has been nominated for two Emmy Awards in the Suncoast Region for its South Florida PBS broadcast of ''Eudora’s Fable: The Shoe Bird,'' the symphony announced on Tuesday.

Music Director Gerard Schwarz, a multi-Emmy Award winner, who led the symphony in the televised concert, was nominated in the category of Director, Long Form Content.

Music Producer Carlos Lopez, a Grammy Award winner and three-time Latin Grammy Award recipient, received a nomination in the Audio category.

Performed and recorded locally in 2021, the work is an adaptation of Pulitzer Prize winner Eudora Welty’s only children’s book, "The Shoe Bird." Composer Samuel Jones adapted the story to create the music and lyrics. The concert is narrated by Charlie Adler and the Young Singers of the Palm Beaches appears as a guest chorus.

In addition to its broadcasts on South Florida PBS, the concert has been seen by more than 114.7 million viewers around the United States since March. The program is offered for national broadcast by American Public Media through the symphony’s partnership with South Florida PBS.

“We are thrilled to be recognized by the Suncoast Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences for the inaugural broadcast in our Dale A. McNulty Children’s Concert Series that introduces young audiences to orchestral music,” said Palm Beach Symphony CEO David McClymont in a prepared statement.

The 47th annual Suncoast Regional EMMY Awards will be held Dec. 2 at the Diplomat Beach Resort in Hollywood, Florida.
