Palm Beach Society: Pink Ties raise green for women facing breast and cervical cancers

Nancy Brinker's Palm Beach home was the setting for a reception to salute the Promise Fund of Florida's Pink Tie Guys.

The Pink Tie Guys are a fundraising group of local men who show their support for women battling breast and cervical cancer by wearing the signature Pink Ties designed and donated by Brioni Palm Beach.

Julie Fisher Cummings, Paulette Koch, Diane Sculley, and Laurie Silvers were chairwomen for the event, which took place Dec. 18 and also served as a kickoff to the PTGs' fundraising season.

John Sculley was chairman.

In addition to cocktails, hors d'oeuvres and music, the evening included remarks from Promise Fund board president David Brodsky, philanthropist and health care advocate Dr. Michael Zinner, and Brinker.

Brodsky welcomed the guests and underscored Promise Fund’s mission to improve access to timely, quality breast and cervical cancer health care for vulnerable Palm Beach County women. He then introduced Kessler, who said the Promise Fund helps save lives, and has made the community healthier and happier.

Zinner, CEO and executive medical director of Miami Cancer Institute at Baptist Health, spoke about the Promise Fund’s proactive approach in helping combat women's cancer, the essential health care services it provides, and its organic integration within the health care system.

Brinker expressed her gratitude to the guests and Promise Fund’s partners, and reported that the organization had engaged more than 25,000 women in 2023. She recognized the event co-chairs, and remembered her dear friend and former chairwoman, Sherry Endelson, to whose memory all 2023-2024 Promise Fund events are dedicated.

The night also served as a launch of the Major Donor Dinner and Award Celebration, which will take place at Club Colette on March 11.

The celebration will include entertainment by Broadway musical stars, a posthumous presentation of the Betty Ford Trailblazer Award to honor Sherry Endelson, and the presentation of the Daniel E. Ponton Excellence in Community Service Award to Ellen Levy, who will be recognized along with her late husband Irwin for their longtime support, and for their annual bridge-lighting sponsorship.

More than 100 people attended, including a political contingent comprising U.S. Reps. Lois Frankel, Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, and Debbie Wasserman Schultz; State Sen. Lori Berman and State Rep. Kelly Skidmore, all of whom who have helped secure funding for Promise Fund programs.
