The event took place April 1 at The Carriage House and celebrated the importance of healthy oceans to the world ecosystem.

The evening began with a vegetarian menu — green tea soba noodle and spring pea risotto — and remarks from founders Hearst Ronning and Schultz, who discussed the charity's newly launched Save theMangroves, Save the Ocean campaign.

"Mangroves are the unsung heroes of ocean health, making a holistic impact on animals, people, and the planet," Hearst Ronning said.

"They absorb three to five times more carbon than the Amazon rainforest, trap pollutants headed for the ocean, and protect coastal communities from increasingly extreme weather while also providing sustainable livelihoods ... Every day there seems to be another climate crisis that is affecting humans and animals around the world. It can feel overwhelming sometimes. But in reality, we have these incredible ecosystems, mangroves, that might be the answer to protecting our planet’s future."

Said Schulz: "Our children and the generations after them deserve a healthy planet. WELL/BEINGS is committed to protecting the mangroves, which shelter the manatees while keeping our oceans healthy and in return, give us every second breath we take."

The night continued with dessert — panna cotta and lemon meringue tartlet — and Out East wines and champagne.

More than 50 people attended.

Proceeds benefit WELL/BEINGS, a next-gen charity movement that elevates and unites animal welfare and environmental protection for the well-being of animals, people and planet.
