In these turbulent times, is there a better theme for an event than "Peace On Earth?"

Craig and Jo Anne Burkholder were chairman and chairwoman of the evening, which began in the Mediterranean Room with cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, and the annual head-shaking amazement at how it could be the holiday season already.

After cocktails, guest moved the Venetian Ballroom, where tables set with creamy white cloths and centered with mounds of all-white floral centerpieces topped with gold-garbed Raphaelite angels lent a luxe elegance to the room.

Well, we are talking about The Breakers here, where its go luxe or go home.

Once seated for dinner, the chairman and chairwoman offered welcoming remarks, which were followed by remarks and a blessing from St. Edward pastor Rt. Rev. Archimandrite Glen Pothier, who also served as honorary chairman.

Father Glen’s remarks included wishes for a joyous Christmas season, and gratitude for all that the parish members do for the community during the year.

The night continued with dinner, dessert, and dancing to the music of the Street Talk Orchestra.

Gala committee included guild past president Florence Berney, as well as Karen Beil, Mary Lynn Rogers, Priscilla Schmeelk, Jean McCoy-Phillips, Carla Cove, Maggie Shepherd and Marilyn Diaz.

More than 260 people attended, including past chairs Virginia and John Gildea, Marietta McNulty, Priscilla Schmeelk, Jennifer and Rocco Marcello, Sharon and Joe Muscarelle, Kathy and Jack Flagg, Lesly Smith, and Tierney and Tim O’Hara.

Proceeds assist the guild in its mission to enhance the spiritual life of the parish by supporting its Faith Formation programs including Catholic education, charitable works in the diocese and community outreach programs.
