PaleyImpact: Jeremy Lin on dealing with anti-Asian hate

Leading figures from journalism, entertainment, sports, and culture gather on April 19, 2021, for PaleyImpact: Media's Role in Combating Hate and Violence Towards Asians and Pacific Islanders, moderated by Cassidy Hubbarth, to address the recent series of brutal attacks on these groups in America, and to discuss the country's ongoing need for diversity and representation in all aspects of our culture. Maureen Reidy, Paley Center President and CEO, offers opening comments. Panel topics include: the importance of helping all Asian Americans to have pride in their heritage; many Asians' tendency to assimilate in America, despite the ongoing need to spotlight their unique qualities; the significance of Chu directing "Crazy Rich Asians," a major 2018 Hollywood production, which highlighted his own identity crisis; why Asian Americans have yet to be recognized as an evolving political and economic power; studio producers' practice of continually misrepresenting the Asian community; and why Lin takes himself to task for not doing enough to break down Asian American barriers and combat prejudice during his "Linsanity" days with the New York Knicks.
