Padma Lakshmi Wows in a Dramatic Gown on the Emmys Red Carpet With a Very Special Date

This is Padma Lakshmi’s last Primetime Emmys with the Bravo TV show, Top Chef, and she’s making sure it’s a memorable one. The 53-year-old reality show host went out in style in a stunning lime-green Marchesa gown that had a dramatic flair to the design. Lakshmi didn’t celebrate the special evening alone, though, she also brought along a sweet plus-one as her guest.

The TV personality brought her 13-year-old daughter Krishna, who proudly stood next to her mother on the red carpet in the color of the evening: black. The mother-daughter duo made a stunning pair as they stood side by side, linking arms, for snapshots. Lakshmi’s dark hair gently framed her face in soft waves and the pink pop of color was all she needed for makeup. The rest of her face had a dewy, natural glow — it was perfect! But the Marchesa gown was the real showstopper on the carpet.

The plunging V-neckline with cutouts on the side hugged Lakshmi’s gorgeous curves. The gold detailing on the bodice added a simple, yet elegant, element to the design. But the real fun was with the skirt which flowed beautiful as she twirled and swirled the fabric for photographers — the dress stole the show. We love a glam moment, but the Taste the Nation host admitted to Fashionista that she’s recently gone through “a purification” when it comes to her “sense of style.”

“That’s the best way I can say it,” she explained. “I’ve gotten rid of a lot of the things that I just felt weren’t me anymore, and every so often that happens. There was a point in my life when I’d wear a lot of very beautiful, extravagant floral dresses and maxi dresses — things with a lot of stuff. But it just doesn’t seem to suit who I am today.” Lakshmi called it a “clarification” of who she is “as [she gets] older.” So, if you run into her on the street, her wardrobe is “more pared-down and focused,” and she has her mother to thank for that. “I grew up in the ’70s — whatever the style is at the time of your mother, it imprints on you, and that’s definitely the case for me,” she noted.

So, don’t expect a major fashion moment from Lakshmi in her daily life, she’s going to reserve that flair for drama for the red carpet. And boy, did she deliver at the Emmys!
