'Paddington' Is Cute But Chaotic in the Live-Action Trailer Premiere

Reflecting his British origins, Paddington has always been one of the more polite and well-mannered of children’s book characters, but judging by our first peek at his new film, the world is about to see a bawdier, rowdier side of the beloved bear, destroying a suburban bathroom after a misbegotten attempt to excavate his earwax.

Yahoo Movies is pleased to present the first full-length trailer for Paddington, the live-action/CGI big screen adaptation based on Michael Bond’s beloved series of books, first published in 1958.

The new film is Paddington’s first live action appearance on the screen (there have been three previous animated TV series based on the books) and it comes from the workshop of producer David Heyman, who also produced a little children’s book-to-film franchise called Harry Potter.

Befitting such a dignified bear, the cast overflows with more highbrow prestige players than a night at the Royal Shakespeare Company, featuring Oscar-winner Colin Firth as the voice of Paddington, along with Jim Broadbent, Julie Walters, Sally Hawkins, Downton Abbey’s Hugh Bonneville and Nicole Kidman as the villainess Millicent.

Paddington opens nationwide on Dec. 12.
