P!NK Says SpongeBob SquarePants Song Was “A Real Mistake”

P!NK has expressed regret for recording her SpongeBob SquarePants song about scurvy.

In a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times, the artist said “We’ve Got Scurvy” is one of her worst songs. At first, P!NK named 2012’s “True Love,” which she described as a “mean” song about her husband Carey Hart. She added, “Carey’s got thick skin, but I owe him a love song.”

But then P!NK recalled doing “We’ve Got Scurvy” for the 2009 SpongeBob SquarePants special SpongeBob’s Truth or Square. “Oh wait, I did put out that SpongeBob thing,” she said about the track. “I wish I never did that. That was a real mistake.”

For those unfamiliar with “We’ve Got Scurvy,” the song features some rather descriptive lyrics about the disease once associated with sailors and long trips on the sea. “Our gums are black, our teeth are falling out/ We’ve got spots on our backs, so give it up and shout,” P!NK sings. “We’ve got scurvy, we need some vitamin C/ We’ve got scurvy, we need a lemon tree/ We got scurvy, we just chillin’ on the sea.”

“We’ve Got Scurvy” appears on the 2009 compilation SpongeBob’s Greatest Hits, and features an accompanying video in which P!NK wears a pirate costume while performing inside a fish bowl. Watch that below.

P!NK is currently wrapping up her 2023 tour, which has featured a few odd incidents thus far. After one fan threw their mother’s ashes at the singer mid-concert in June, a different fan at a recent show took it as an opportunity to protest circumcision. Grab tickets for the remaining dates here.
