Ozzy Osbourne is recovering well after undergoing major surgery to his spine.

The 73-year-old Black Sabbath rocker had an operation to remove and realign the pins in his neck and back that were inserted following a quad-biking accident in 2003.

His wife Sharon Osbourne, 69, told fans on Twitter: "Our family would like to express so much gratitude for the overwhelming amount of love and support leading up to Ozzy’s surgery!

"Ozzy is doing well and on the road to recovery! Your love means the world to him.”

Ozzy's account shared a clip from his song I Love You All, from his 2010 album Scream.

TV presenter Sharon revealed on her show The Talk UK last week that Ozzy was about to undergo surgery and she was flying to the US to be at his side.

She said: "He has a very major operation on Monday and I have to be there. It's really going to determine the rest of his life."

Ozzy originally injured his spine in a quad-bike accident in 2003. Pins were fitted to realign his back and neck following the injury.

But these were then knocked out of place when he suffered a fall at his Los Angeles home in 2019 and he underwent another operation.

After being plagued by health problems he revealed in an emotional interview with Good Morning America in January 2020 that he had been diagnosed with degenerative disease Parkinson’s, which affects the nervous system and can cause depression.

He said: "I had to have surgery on my neck which screwed all my nerves in. I've got numbness down this arm from the surgery. My legs feel going cold, I don't know if that's Parkinson's or what... It's a weird feeling."

The Paranoid singer contracted COVID in April this year.

Sharon said at the time: "We've gone two years without him catching COVID and it's just Ozzy's luck it would be now.”

After receiving his first dose of the coronavirus vaccine in February 2021, Ozzy had said he felt immediately relieved.

Ozzy rose to fame with Birmingham heavy metal group Black Sabbath in 1969 and has enjoyed an enduring musical career with the band and as a solo artist.

The European leg of his No More Tours 2 tour — postponed since he fell ill in 2019 — is currently scheduled to go ahead in 2023.

Sharon and Ozzy married in Maui, Hawaii in 1982. They had daughter Aimee in 1983, Kelly in 1984 and son Jack in 1985.

The family appeared, without Aimee, in hit MTV reality show The Osbournes from 2002 to 2005.
