Oxygen Renews ‘Bad Girls Club’, Orders New Doc-Comedy Series ‘Unprotected’

On the heels of its 16th season premiere, Oxygen Media has renewed its hit reality series Bad Girls Club for a 17th go-round. The network also gave the green light to new original doc-comedy series Unprotected, about a family leaving the witness protection program to start a new life. Production is already underway for both series and each is set to premiere in 2017.

In the half-hour Unprotected, viewers will follow the Cantarellas, a family raising two teenagers, who have left the witness protection program to settle into the very suburban and retiree lifestyle of their new hometown of Scottsdale, AZ. Over the course of the season, viewers will see them adapting to their unfamiliar surroundings and trying to reform their old ways, but all the while staying true to themselves. From running a legit family business to making new friends, the Cantarellas are putting their wayward past behind them and learning how to live life in the burbs.

In the new season of BGC, the network looks to the coasts for the newest crop of Bad Girls. Bad Girls Club: East Meets West, will show fans that not all Bad Girls are created equal, and they have very different ways of handling their business when dueling over style and territory.

BGC in the Tuesday 8 pm slot is credited with helping push Oxygen to the No. 1 slot among ad-supported cable entertainment networks in F18-34, making it the youngest women’s network on Tuesdays in primetime, according to Oxygen.

Oxygen also has recently-launched Strut, and the upcoming competition series The Battle of the Ex-Besties and Last Squad Standing premiering this quarter, further expanding the network’s programming slate geared to millennial women.

Unprotected is produced by Propagate with Ben Silverman, Howard T. Owens, Kevin Healey and Eric Kutner serving as executive producers.

Bad Girls Club: East Meets West is produced by Bunim/Murray Productions with Jonathan Murray and Gil Goldschein serving as Executive Producers and Steve Ezell, Heidi Van Lier and Alexandria Seidel as Co-Executive Producers.
