Oxygen’s Final Moments: Was Missing Teen Brittanee Drexel’s Body Found?
17-year-old Brittanee Drexel died a horrific death in 2009, but it was only in May 2022 that her body was discovered. According to the New York Post, the skeletal remains of Brittanee Drexel were found in South Carolina. It took officials 13 years to make this find. The last time Brittanee was seen alive was on April 25, 2009. After texting her then-boyfriend, she was reported missing.
Although the case went cold for a long time, an inmate informed cops in 2016 that the teenager had been kidnapped and killed. The man responsible for Brittanee’s death was a registered sex offender who went by the name Raymond Moody. The New York Post further reported that in 2009, Moody intended to have sex with Brittanee. However, he ended up raping and strangling her to death.
This incident happened at a campsite in Georgetown County. According to WMBF news, the killer buried his victim’s body in an area near Pennyroyal Road.
Now, this tragic case will be covered in the upcoming episode of Final Moments on Oxygen. The episode, titled “Myrtle Beach Mystery,” will air on November 26, 2023, at 7 pm ET.
The synopsis reads, “A spring break trip to Myrtle Beach, S.C., is irresistible to teenager Brittanee Drexel, despite her mother’s opposition. When she disappears from the beach town, it will take years for her family to learn the truth about what happened to her.”
What did the FBI say about the murder of Brittanee Drexel?
After Raymond Moody pleaded guilty to all the charges against him, the court sentenced him to life in prison. Furthermore, he will serve two consecutive terms of 30 years.
Following the verdict, the FBI released a statement that read, “Today marks the ending of a long, dark chapter for Brittanee Drexel’s family and friends, the Myrtle Beach and Georgetown County communities, and all others who poured their heart and soul into finding the truth about what happened to Brittanee. The truth is she was kidnapped, sexually assaulted, and killed in a horrific and incomprehensible way.”
It further stated, “The recovery of Brittanee’s remains in May, and now the guilty plea and sentencing is the culmination, in part, of the law enforcement efforts from the local, state, and federal level, as well as the countless other entities and individuals who played a role in bringing this case to this point.”
The FBI ended their statement by saying, “The service of justice through this sentencing will never completely alleviate the grief of losing Brittanee, but it is our hope it can help the family continue their healing and focus on cherished memories she left behind.”
Brittanee Drexel was born out of wedlock on October 7, 1991, in Rochester, New York. Her biological parents were John Kahyaoglu and Dawn. However, a little while after the birth of Brittanee, Dawn married a man named Chad Drexel. The daughter reportedly took the last name of her adopted father. Soon after, the family started residing in the Rochester suburb of Chili.
