'Outlander' stars talk butts, Batman, and, yes, Season 3

Gather ’round, ye Sassenachs and Scots, and prepare to drink deeply, because the year-long “Droughtlander” is over at last. The hit time-traveling romance Outlander returns to Starz on Sunday, and no one is more excited to share the new season with fans than the show’s stars, Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan. “It’s an incredible season,” Heughan said during a Yahoo TV-hosted Build Series NYC interview. Adapted from the third installment in Diana Gabaldon’s much-loved series of novels, Voyager, Season 3 opens with its red-hot lovers Claire and Jamie once again separated by centuries: her in the 1940s, and him in the 1740s.

But fear not! A reunion is in the offing, though the actors were careful not to spoil when that might happen. “I didn’t miss him at all,” Balfe teasingly said of her temporary separation from Heughan. “We were working in very different worlds. A lot of my stuff was studio-based, and Sam’s stuff was out in fields, and it was really wet and mucky. There were a couple of times when we’d run into each other and it would be like, ‘Oh my god, what have you been doing?'”

Watch the full interview above to hear more about what to expect from this season of Outlander and to see Heughan share the story of how he wound up playing Gotham City’s Dark Knight in a touring Batman stage show. (Memo to Warner Brothers: If Ben Affleck really is done playing the Caped Crusader, maybe it’s time for a Scottish Batman?)

Season 3 of Outlander premieres Sept. 10 at 8 p.m. on Starz.
