Venture to Newport's riverfront this Halloween to visit the USS Nightmare, a haunted house situated on the William S. Mitchell, an old steam-powered dredge boat.

According to legend, the William S. Mitchell, built in 1934 by the US Army Corps of Engineers, carries a sinister history, with 112 crew member deaths in its 45 years of service. Following its retirement, the ship mysteriously broke free from its dock and slammed into four different bridges along the Missouri River, in what is now called the “Mitchell Massacre.”

Haunted tours run from 7-11 p.m. on Halloween, with general admission tickets starting at $25. Tickets can be purchased online at ussnightmare.ticketspice.com/ussnightmare2023.

2. Grab a table at Ghost Baby speakeasy

Grab a table at Over-the-Rhine's iconic tunnel-turned-speakeasy Ghost Baby, open 5-11 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 31. Located at 1314 Republic St., this underground space features the Rattle Room bar just steps beyond the Den, a club room with a spotlit, velvet-curtained stage that hosts live music, burlesque and other live performances.

Make sure to book a reservation ahead of time to snag one of the tables in the Den.

(Psst ... In true speakeasy fashion, Ghost Baby is a bit hard to spot from Republic Street. Look for bright purple lamps outside, and a host will direct you to elevators to take you down the four stories to Ghost Baby's mysterious oasis.)

Right now, Esquire is showing the brand-new "Five Nights at Freddy's" film and the original "Halloween" movie from 1978; or, check out thrillers "Killers of the Flower Moon" and "Anatomy of a Fall."

If you're feeling less haunted and more enchanted this Halloween, the theater does, in fact, have a few "Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour" showings on Oct. 31.

Ranked among the 10 best haunted houses in the U.S., the Dent Schoolhouse is Cincinnati's scariest Halloween tradition, telling the story of a murderous janitor and his killer faculty that now haunt this schoolhouse.

Oct. 31 is the last night the venue will be hosting their regular haunt show. Tickets start at $23, available for any of their 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. shows. Those interested should note that their selected ticket time is when they are welcome to enter the waiting line for their ticket type and not necessarily the time they'll enter the house.

Dent Schoolhouse also offers fast pass tickets for $43 and front-of-line tickets for $53.
