Whew. Honestly, we were getting worried for a minute. But Amazon Studios has announced a second season for “Outer Range,” the sci-fi western that stars Josh Brolin, Lili Taylor and Imogen Poots.

The first season debuted on Prime Video earlier this year. Charles Murray, whose credits include “Sons of Anarchy” and Marvel’s “Luke Cage” (he has an overall deal with Amazon Studios), will come aboard as showrunner and executive producer for season 2. The show was created and largely written by Brian Watkins.

Royal Abbott (Brolin) is a farmer in rural Wyoming who notices, one day, a giant mysterious sinkhole on his property. The hole seemingly has no bottom, and it exhibits other strange properties, enough to pique the interest of Abbott’s overzealous neighbor Wayne Tillerson (Will Patton). While Abbott tries to keep the hole a secret, the arrival of a young hippie woman on his land (Poots) further complicates matters. The less you know about the series the better; just throw it on and be enveloped. “Outer Range” is easily one of the standouts of the year and there are so many quandaries still left to explore in its unique, twisted world.

The first season of the show wrapped in early May and we haven’t heard anything about it since. Meanwhile costar Lewis Pullman (who plays one of Royal’s sons, a lovestruck rodeo rider) went on to star in not only the biggest movie of the summer but one of the biggest movies of all time – “Top Gun: Maverick” (he’s Bob, just Bob).

“Outer Range” is executive produced by Murray, Heather Rae, Brolin, Zev Borow, Watkins, Tony Krantz and Plan B Entertainment for Amazon Studios. Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner and Ernest McNealey executive produce on behalf of Plan B.

A timetable for “Outer Range’s” return has yet to be detailed.
