Did OU's Abdul Adams have possession on this fumble overturned to an incompletion?
Here’s another instance of just how tough it can be to figure out what constitutes a catch in football.
Oklahoma running back Abdul Adams appeared to have fumbled a swing pass in the first quarter vs. Oklahoma State. The ball was picked up by the Cowboys and returned for a two-score lead.
Officials ruled Adams had established possession before dropping the football. But had he? As the play was reviewed, they saw this angle. He clearly switches the ball from one hand to another. But did he ever have complete control?
Take a look for yourself. While it sure looked like he had possession at speed, the replay makes it look like he didn’t.
And sure enough, the call on the field was overturned from a fumble to an incomplete pass as Oklahoma got to keep the ball.
The Sooners ended up punting on the drive, so Oklahoma State got the ball back without giving up a score. But the Cowboys sure would have liked those six points.
