'Our Brand Is Crisis' Star Anthony Mackie Calls Kanye West 'President of the American Dream'

Hip-hop icon Kanye West is 100 percent serious about running for president in 2020 (even his wife swears it’s true). So we decided to ask the cast of this week’s Our Brand Is Crisis — in which Sandra Bullock stars as an election expert running a presidential campaign in Bolivia — what advice they’d give the 38-year-old musician. Watch their responses above!

Billy Bob Thornton didn’t seem to take West’s presidential bid too seriously, making a reference to the time the rapper epically interrupted Taylor Swift’s speech at the 2009 MTV VMAs. Bullock, meanwhile, took the diplomatic route, cautiously agreeing with Thornton’s advice that West wait his turn before going onstage. But it was Anthony Mackie who offered the most insight, noting that West is “the guy who built himself up from his bootstraps,” and reminding us that West went from college dropout to music megastar — making him, as Mackie says, “the President of the American Dream.”

Our Brand Is Crisis opens in theaters this Friday.
