OSU’s Michigan Victory Scores For ABC; 10.4 Overnight Is Season’s College Best

Update with total live numbers Ohio State’s 30-27 win over archrival Michigan yesterday scored a big 10.4 overnight for ABC, with ESPN’s stream adding another 279,000 viewers in the average minute. All told, this year’s showdown between the Buckeyes and Wolverines in Columbus brought the best viewership for a college football regular season game this season across all networks.

The game delivered a total live audience (TV + streaming) of 16,926,000 viewers, making it the most-watched college football game this season across all networks. The double-overtime battle ranks among the most-watched regular season college football games on record across all networks.

The game was ESPN’s most-streamed regular season college football game ever in all three metrics, with a total of 1.3M unique viewers, and the best overnight for a noon kickoff college football game since ABC began keeping track in 2004. The broadcast brought ABC’s second best overnight on record, behind the 2006 Wolverines-Buckeyes game (11.5 overnight).

ESPN’s stream of the game was the first regular season game to pass 1M unique users and 60 million minutes watched.

The overnight was up 53% from last year’s Ohio State at Michigan game (November 28, 2015 at noon on ABC). ABC’s audience peaked with a 12.7 rating (3:45 p.m. – 4 p.m. ET) as the Buckeyes-Wolverines battled in overtime. Columbus was the No. 1 market with 43.6 local rating, followed by Dayton (36.8) and Detroit (30.8).
