Osteen man killed in head-on crash in Deltona, police say

A 57-year-old man from Osteen was killed in a head-on crash Monday in Deltona after veering out of his lane and into an oncoming vehicle, according to the Volusia Sheriff's Office.

Deputies responded to the crash around 11:54 a.m. in the area of 1849 E. Normandy Blvd. near Clay Court.

Witnesses told deputies a black Mitsubishi SUV was northbound when it veered into the center turn lane, abruptly turned back into the northbound lane, and then veered left again into the center lane, hitting an oncoming Jeep SUV head-on at an angle.

The Mitsubishi’s driver, Shawn Wainwright of Osteen, was transported to an area emergency room where he was later pronounced dead.

The driver of the Jeep was extricated by Deltona Fire Rescue and then airlifted to a hospital, where he was later listed in stable condition.

Witnesses to the crash indicated it did not appear either vehicle was speeding. An investigation is ongoing.
