Oshkosh's can't-miss events this week include The Grand's birthday, Train concert

OSHKOSH - Celebrate The Grand Oshkosh's 140th birthday with a show featuring Mallory Lewis and a special bingo session.

There's also plenty of live music scheduled this week including the Grammy Award-winning band Train while Star Six Nine will play the free Tuesday concert, both at the Leach Amphitheater.

Here are your five can't-miss events happening in the community this week.

1. The Grand Oshkosh marks its 140th birthday

The Grand Oshkosh will hold its 140th birthday celebration Aug. 9. The event, featuring The Shari Lewis Legacy – starring Mallory Lewis and Lamb Chop, runs 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. at 100 High Ave.

Built in 1883, The Grand Oshkosh is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is the oldest operating theater in Wisconsin

Mallory Lewis is the daughter of beloved entertainer Shari Lewis. She has been involved in children’s entertainment her entire life. Following her mother’s passing in 1998, Mallory began appearing with Lamb Chop. The show will offer comedy, songs, rare video footage and personal stories in tribute to Shari Lewis.

Mallory also will be the special guest caller for The Grand's Birthday Bingo event Aug. 8. Bingo starts at 6 p.m. Cards may be purchased at the door on a first-come, first-served basis.

This event is pay-what-you-can donation. Reservations are required at thegrandoshkosh.org.

2. Train headlines concert at Leach Amphitheater

Train and Better Than Ezra are coming to the Leach Amphitheater Aug. 6. Doors open at 5 p.m. with the show at 6:30 p.m.

Train is a multi-Grammy and Billboard Award-winning band from San Francisco. They have had 14 songs on Billboard’s Hot 100 list since the release of their debut self-titled album in 1998. Some of their hits include “Meet Virginia,” “Hey, Soul Sister” and “Play That Song.” The group’s 11th studio album, AM Gold, was released in 2022.

Better Than Ezra formed in 1988. They are known for “Good,” which went multi-platinum, “Desperately Wanting” and “Crazy Lucky.”

Tickets are $75 for patio seating and $45 for grass seating.

3. Annual car show set Aug. 5 in Winneconne's Marble Park

Winneconne Road Runners will host their seventh annual Car Show and Craft Sale fundraiser Aug. 5 at Arthur Marble Park, 639 W. Main St., Winneconne.

Register your car between 7 and 11 a.m. the day of the show. The cost is $15. Judging is done by entrants and the public.

The event will be open to the public 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. with free admission for spectators.

4. Creativity on display at Downtown Oshkosh Chalk Walk

The Downtown Oshkosh Chalk Walk will be Aug. 5 at Opera House Square, 315 N. Main St. Artists will decorate the sidewalks around the square from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Attendees can view the artwork and enjoy food and music.

In case of rain, the Chalk Walk will be moved to Aug. 12.

5. Star Six Nine next up for 'Live at the Leach' concert

Star Six Nine will present the free Tuesday "Live at the Leach" concert Aug. 8 at Leach Amphitheater, 303 Ceape Ave.

The event runs 5:30 to 9 p.m. and includes face painting, bounce houses, food trucks and more. The band will play at 6 p.m.
