Oshkosh's can't-miss events include return of Gallery Walk and a Labor Day picnic

OSHKOSH - The Oshkosh Gallery Walk returns Sept. 2 to put a spotlight on local artists. Also scheduled for this week are the Labor Day picnic in South Park and a horse show at Sunnyview Expo.

Here are your five can't-miss events happening in the community this week.

1. Oshkosh Gallery Walk returns Sept. 2 to feature local artists

The Oshkosh Gallery Walk will make its return to downtown Oshkosh Sept. 2.

It will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. along North Main Street and continues the first Saturday of the month.

The event puts a spotlight on local and regional artists. Participating in the Sept. 2 event is Tempo Music & Art Gallery, Tara Rudy Photography, Elsewhere Coffee House, Artspace Collective, Gardina’s, Fire Escape, Jambalaya Arts Inc., New Moon Cafe and Becket’s.

2. Labor Day picnic hosted at South Park Sept. 4

Winnebago County will mark Labor Day with a picnic and car show Sept. 4 at South Park, 1300 Georgia St., Oshkosh.

Live music will be provided by Fork in the Road. There also will be face painting and free books for the kids, raffle drawings for cash and gift certificates, along with food and beverages.

Car registration begins at 10 a.m. Food and refreshments will be available from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

This event is sponsored by the Fox Valley Area Labor Council and Winnebago County Democratic Party.

3. Horse show features chance to 'Meet an Arabian'

The Wisconsin Desert Horse Association will host The Festival Show Arabian and All Breed Horse Show Sept. 2 and 3 at Sunnyview Expo Center, 500 E. County Road Y, Oshkosh. The show runs 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days.

There also will be a chance to “Meet an Arabian,” which will include handouts, a petting opportunity, a tour of the stalling areas, a ringside chat on what happens in the show ring, and the opportunity to make a No Bake Horse Cookie.

4. Hmong festival features two days of competitions

Hmong National Labor Day Festival will be hosted at the Winnebago County Community Park, 501 E. County Road Y, Oshkosh, Sept. 2 and 3.

Hosted by the Hmong Service Center Inc., there will be competitions in men’s soccer, men’s senior soccer, men’s volleyball, women’s volleyball, men’s flag football, topspin as well as dance, talent and pageant competition.

Admission is $7, and free for children under 36 inches tall. People will be admitted between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m.

5. Sixx Gunns Loaded to play Twisted Roots' corn roast

Twisted Roots with hold its eighth annual Corn Roast Sept. 2 at 693 N. Main St., Oshkosh.

The corn roast begins at 2 p.m. Minus One will begin the live music at 4 p.m. Sixx Gunns Loaded will begin its set at 7:30 p.m.
