Oshkosh's can't-miss events include gem show, craft fair and more

OSHKOSH - Families can check out the Gem and Mineral Show or the Touch-a-Truck event, or you can help raise funds to aid veteran programs by checking out the craft fair hosted by the Marine Corps League Auxiliary.

Here are your can't-miss events happening in the community this week.

1. Gem and Mineral Show features displays, demonstrations

The Oshkosh Earth Science Club will host its 2023 Gem and Mineral Show Sept. 23 and 24 at Sunnyview Expo Center, 500 E. County Y.

Show hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 23 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 24.

There will be member displays and demonstrations of rocks, minerals, fossils and jewlery. More than 20 vendors will have items available for purchase. There will be door prizes, raffles and a children’s play area.

Admission is $2 or $1 for students with ID.

2. Craft Fair to benefit veteran programs

The Winnebago Unit Marine Corps League Auxiliary will hold a Craft Fair Sept. 23. Running from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., it will be at the Winnebago Detachment Marine Corps League, 4715 Sherman Road.

Held outdoors, the fair will have crafters and direct sales. A bake sale and basket raffles will also be included. Beverages will be available for purchase and TT’Z BBQ Food Truck will be on the grounds from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Funds raised will go toward programs serving veterans and their families.

3. Kids can explore vehicles at Touch-a-Truck event

The Touch-a-Truck event is scheduled 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 23 at the Leach Amphitheater, 303 Ceape Ave.

Kids can explore a variety of vehicles. Hands-on activities include sandboxes and mini gravel pits.

Food trucks will offer a variety of treats for sale.

4. Oktoberfest at Poplar Creek celebrates German music, food

Oktoberfest and Beer Run 2023 is set for Sept. 24 at Poplar Creek Barn, 4541 County K. The free-admission event will be held noon to 9 p.m.

Two- and four-person teams can participate in a Beer Run Relay at 11:30 a.m. Registration is $25 at ticketbud.com. Prizes will be awarded.

Doors open to public at noon. Die Musikmeisters will play from 1 to 6 p.m. There will be outdoor games and activities, and German food and handmade goods will be available for purchase.
