Oshkosh Jazz Festival, Jackie Kashian comedy show and more can’t-miss events this week

OSHKOSH - Laugh it up with comic Jackie Kashian or maybe you'd rather relax with the soothing sounds of jazz during Oshkosh's Jazz Festival.

You also could help the local American Legion and Utica Fire Department by attending their events.

Here are your five can't-miss events happening in the community this week.

1. Oshkosh Jazz Festival to feature Take 6, Benny Benack III

Take 6 will headline the third annual Oshkosh Jazz Festival. The music starts at 1 p.m. Aug. 26 in the 400 block of Main Street.

Other jazz artists on the schedule include Benny Benack III, Steve March Tormè, Stuck on Blue and VIVO.

2. Jackie Kashian headlines comedy show at the Time

Fox Valley Comedy will present Jackie Kashian at 7 p.m. Aug. 24 at Time Community Theater, 445 N. Main St.

Kashian is a stand-up comedian who has appeared on HBO, Comedy Central, Conan, Corden, CBS, NBC, Apple TV, Netflix, Hulu, Amazon and more. In addition to two podcasts, “The Jackie and Laurie Show” and “The Dork Forest,” her writing can be found in “The Comedy Film Nerds Guide to Movies” and the comic book “Comics Comics Quarterly.”

Joining Kashian for the show is Dana Ehrmann of Milwaukee and Will Amacher of Oshkosh.

3. American Legion hosts Car-Bike-Truck Show Aug. 26

American Legion Cook Fuller Post 70 will hold its second annual Car-Bike-Truck Show Aug. 26. The show will take place 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Cook Fuller Post 70, 1332 Spruce St.

Register a car, truck or motorcycle beginning at 8 a.m. with the show starting at 10 a.m. Admission is free.

4. Family fun on tap at Utica Firemen's Picnic

The 59th Annual Utica Firemen's Picnic is set to begin at 11 a.m. Aug. 27 at 1730 County FF.

The picnic features a chicken barbecue, live music, a dunk tank, bounce houses, kids' games and raffles. The chicken dinner includes sweet corn, potato salad, pickle spear, chips and a drink. Pie and ice cream also will be available for purchase.

Big Boomba Boppers will provide the live music entertainment from 1 to 4 p.m.

5. Jazz singer Abby Bellmer to appear at Becket's

Becket’s will host a live jazz show with Abby Bellmer Aug. 28. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. at 2 Jackson St.

Bellmer hails from El Paso, Texas. Admission is free.

Becket’s also hosts live music by The Jazz Orgy Wednesdays starting at 7 p.m.
