1. Next Herd home games start Jan. 5 at Oshkosh Arena

The Wisconsin Herd will play a series of home games starting Jan. 5 at the Oshkosh Arena, 1212 S. Main St. The team is the official NBA G League affiliate of the Milwaukee Bucks.

The Herd will face the Greensboro Swarm at 7 p.m. on Jan. 5 and 6. At 6 p.m. Jan. 8, they will play against the Stockton Kings.

2. 'Perfect Arrangement' to be staged by Rebel Alliance

Rebel Alliance Theatre will present “Perfect Arrangement” by Topher Payne for four shows in January.

This show contains themes that may not be comfortable for all audiences – parental guidance is encouraged.

The story takes place in 1950, during the “Lavender Scare,” when homosexuality is considered a mental illness, and gay men and lesbians were barred or removed from government employment. At the center of this upheaval, two gay men and two lesbians avoid discovery by presenting themselves as heterosexual couples, living next door to each other. But when their employer, the U.S. State Department, asks them to target men and women just like themselves, they are forced to choose between the living arrangement required by their government and the right to live in dignity without shame or fear.

Shows start at 7 p.m. Jan. 5, 6, 12 and 13, and will be performed at First Congregational Church, 137 Algoma Blvd.

Tickets start at $18 at ko-fi.com/rebelalliancetheatre or at the door.

3. Next winter Farmers Market is Jan. 6 at Convention Center

The Oshkosh Winter Farmers Market will be held at Oshkosh Convention Center, 2 N Main St. on Jan. 6. Market hours are 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and are held on select Saturdays throughout the winter at the Convention Center or Oshkosh Arena.

Items for sale include locally grown fresh and organic produce, such as late season fruits and vegetables, hydroponic and greenhouse-raised greens, eggs, locally roasted coffees, honey, syrups, cheeses, farm raised meats, jams and jellies, canned goods, bakery, craft items, take-home meals and more.

There also is local, live entertainment offered at each market.

4. Learn about diamond painting during DIY workshop

The next Adult DIY program at the Oshkosh Public Library will feature Diamond Painting. The session will begin at 6 p.m., Jan. 9 at 106 Washington Ave.

The craft include applying tiny resin rhinestones to a pre-printed design to create a unique piece of art that you can take home.

All supplies are provided for the in-person, instructor-led workshop. Classes are free and do not require a library card, though a reservation is required by calling 920-236-5205.

5. Tour the Oshkosh library's genealogy collection

The Winnebagoland Genealogical Society will present a tour of the Oshkosh Public Library’s genealogy collection on Jan. 11. The tour begins at 6 p.m.

The collection began with a gift from the local chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and have been enhanced by two trust funds over the years. While some items are not as well-used now as in earlier days thanks to online sources, others are still quite valuable.

Retired local and family history librarian Mara Munroe will point out some of her favorite sources.
