Oshkosh can't-miss events include free Community Band concert, Style Show and more

OSHKOSH — This coming week in Winnebago County, locals can enjoy a free fall concert, attend a style show or a craft sale. There's also a shopping event set in downtown Neenah.

Here are your can't-miss events happening in the community this week.

1. Oshkosh Area Community Band presents fall concert

The Oshkosh Area Community Band will present a fall concert at 7 p.m. Nov. 4 at the Alberta Kimball Auditorium, 375 N. Eagle St., Oshkosh. British bandmasters, jazz, spooky sounds and dance music will be part of this concert.

The concert will open with works of British composers Ralph Vaughan Williams, William Walton and Gustav Holst. The second part of our concert features the Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Jon Basten.

The concert band will then return to the stage and feature some spooky sounds of the Halloween season. Musical works inspired by dance beats will close out the concert.

The doors open at 6:30 p.m. While there is no admission charged, donations are accepted. The band is under the direction of David Berndt.

2. Style Show to benefit local nonprofit organizations

The Oshkosh Area Women’s Association Inc. will host the 37th Annual Benefit Style Show Nov. 7. The event begins with a cash bar at 4:30 p.m., dinner served at 6 p.m. with the style show at 7 p.m. It will be held at the Oshkosh Convention Center, 2 N. Main St.

The style show will feature 11 stores from the Oshkosh and Fox Valley area. Proceeds will benefit the Day by Day Warming Shelter-Evening Meals, OASD Brewing Futures Mobile Café, Town of Oshkosh Fire Department and Miss Oshkosh Organization Scholarship Fund. There also will be a chance to bid on silent auction items.

Tickets are $40 and include dinner. Individual tickets may be purchased at Festival Foods, 2415 Westowne Ave., Oshkosh; West Pointe Bank, 1750 Witzel Ave., Oshkosh; or Elements Unleaded, 210 W. Wisconsin Ave., Neenah. Tables reservations for up to eight people can be made with Jaye Roeming at 920-233-5712.

3. Altrusa hosts annual craft and bake sale at Elks Lodge

Altrusa International Club of Oshkosh will hold its Harvest Moon Craft and Bake Sale Nov. 4. The event will run 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Elks Lodge, 175 W. Fernau Ave., Oshkosh.

Cash donations or new or gently used books are appreciated for admission.

Vendors will sell a variety of handcrafted, locally made items including unique jewelry, holiday decor, wooden items, artwork, photographs, quilts, wool mittens and more. Bake sale items have been prepared by Altrusa members.

Altrusa’s famous pecans also will be available or can be ordered from members.

4. Shop & Stroll event set for Nov. 9 in downtown Neenah

The Downtown Neenah Shop & Stroll event will be Nov. 9. Shop downtown from 4 to 8 p.m. Enjoy light snacks and refreshments at participating businesses.

There will be a chance to win door prizes of $25 or $50 gift certificates. When done shopping, drop your ticket stub off at your last business. Ticket stubs will be pooled to choose winners from random locations. Visit all 15 businesses for a chance to win the $50 downtown Neenah gift certificate.

5. Next Women's Connection meeting focuses on Christmas

The next Fox Valley Women’s Connection meeting will be 1 to 2:30 p.m. Nov. 8 at Calvary Bible Church, 1450 Oakridge Road, Neenah.

Attendees are invited to make a greeting card gift box and to take items for stocking stuffers for Father Carr’s. Guest speaker Joanne Winkler will share a special Christmas message, “The Never Ending Message.”
