The Oscars in 2 Minutes: The Highs and Lows

The 88th Academy Awards were Sunday evening, and since the show was over three and half hours long, we compiled a list of the highs and lows so you can get your Oscars fix in about two minutes.

Chris Rock was a definite high note. The comedian’s monologue centered around the lack of diversity and relied on comedy to make pointed social commentary while also taking the sting out of such a touchy subject. There were also sketches in which black actors were superimposed into nominated films, as well as a sketch in which Rock visited a movie theater in Compton, Calif., to get the locals’ take on the awards.

Another big high was Mad Max Fury Road taking home six awards. And while most of them were for the technical aspects of production, the teams have to feel very accomplished.

But the highest of highs was the fact that Leonardo DiCaprio finally won the Oscar he’s been chasing for years. The actor won for his performance in The Revenant and used his moment in the sun to push his environmental agenda forward.
