This year's Academy Awards will look much different from years past.

Like other awards shows that have been forced to adapt to the coronavirus pandemic, the Oscars telecast will now broadcast live from multiple locations, including Los Angeles' Dolby Theatre.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is determined to present the ceremony while prioritizing the public health and safety of those who participate, the Academy told USA TODAY in a statement Wednesday.

The reimagined ceremony is still set for April 25, two months later than the originally scheduled Feb. 28 date. The move was announced last June, along with the academy's extension of the eligibility period beyond the usual Dec. 31 date. Movies released between Jan. 1, 2020, and Feb. 28, 2021, qualify for this year's Oscars.

This is only the fourth time in Oscars history that the ceremony has been delayed. The first postponement, in 1938, was a result of massive flooding in Los Angeles. The other delays came after the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. in 1968 and an attempt on President Ronald Reagan's life in 1981.

The reworked Oscars could look like last September's Emmy Awards: Host Jimmy Kimmel and several celebrities presented live from Los Angeles' Staples Center, while the awards themselves were delivered directly to winners' homes by people in hazmat suits during the telecast.

The Golden Globes are scheduled to air Feb. 28, with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler hosting from opposite coasts.
