Oscars 2019: Watch Gillian Welch and David Rawlings Sing “When a Cowboy Trades His Spurs for Wings”

Kacey Musgraves introduced the song from The Ballad of Buster Scruggs

Tonight at the 2019 Academy Awards, singer-songwriter duo Gillian Welch and David Rawlings performed “When a Cowboy Trades His Spurs for Wings” from The Ballad of Buster Scruggs. Welch and Rawlings wrote the track, which was performed by Tim Blake Nelson and Willie Watson in the Coen Brothers film. Welch and Rawlings performed in matching western ensembles. “When a Cowboy Trades His Spurs for Wings” was nominated for Best Original Song along with Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s “Shallow” (A Star Is Born), Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s “All the Stars” (Black Panther), and others. The Coen Brothers also received nods for Best Adapted Screenplay for their work with The Ballad of Buster Scruggs.
