Oscars 2018: Watch Mary J. Blige Perform “Mighty River”

Mary J. Blige performed at the 2018 Academy Awards tonight. She was introduced by her friend Taraji P. Henson, who said that Blige’s song was about “the pain of life.” Blige then took to the stage to sing “Mighty River”—the track she recorded for Mudbound that is up for Best Original Song. She was joined by a choir of background singers. Watch her performance below. Sufjan Stevens, Common, Andra Day, and Miguel are also set to perform at the Oscars tonight. Blige, who also stars in Mudbound, was nominated for Best Supporting Actress. She is the first person to earn nominations for acting and Best Original Song in the same year.
