Taraji P. Henson's comments to Ryan Seacrest were misinterpreted -- they actually meant the complete opposite of what Twitter thought, she clarified to People later that night.

While talking to Seacrest ahead of Sunday night's Oscars, the star seemingly threw some serious shade at the host, who has been battling nasty sexual harassment and assault allegations.

“The universe has a way of taking care of taking care of good people,” Henson said, maintaining firm eye contact with Seacrest. “Know what I mean?”

But while Twitter immediately assumed Henson was taking an on-air dig at Seacrest, Henson says the reactions were off base.

“I did it to keep his chin up. It’s an awkward position to be in," Henson told People. "He’s been cleared but anyone can say anything."

The speculation ramped up even further after Henson's interview with Seacrest, when she said to the next host interviewing her, “I’m great now that I’m in your company.”

However, despite the optics of the situation, Henson says she "absolutely" supports Seacrest -- and he returns the sentiment.

"Nothing but love for my friend," Seacrest tweeted alongside a photo of himself and Henson. "Thanks for hanging out with us on the E! red carpet!"
