Oscars 2018: Alexandre Desplat Wins Best Original Score for The Shape of Water

French composer Alexandre Desplat has won Best Original Score at the 2018 Academy Awards for his work on Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape of Water. It’s Desplat’s second Oscar victory: He won Best Original Score in 2015 for The Grand Budapest Hotel. Desplat takes home the 2018 honor over scores by Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood (Phantom Thread), John Williams (Star Wars: The Last Jedi), and Hans Zimmer (Dunkirk), and Carter Burwell (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri). Back in January, Desplat also won Best Original Score at the 2018 Golden Globes.
