Oscar-Qualified ‘Yoshiki: Under The Sky’ Locks Down Digital Release Through A List Media Entertainment And Magnolia Pictures Home Entertainment

EXCLUSIVE: A List Media Entertainment and Magnolia Pictures Home Entertainment are partnering to distribute the Oscar-qualified music documentary Yoshiki: Under the Sky on digital platforms in North America.

The film, which has been released in more than 130 cinemas in Japan, Europe and the U.S. to date, marks the directorial debut of Yoshiki, the musician and composer known for founding and leading bands X Japan and The Last Rockstars. Yoshiki: Under the Sky was “conceived during the pandemic when musicians could not connect with their fans,” according to a release about the documentary, gathering “an extraordinary collection of international artists for an emotional journey through the pain of losing loved ones and uniting globally through the healing power of music.”

The release adds, “Shot in Germany, Beijing, Tokyo, and L.A., the film features interviews and performances from Sarah Brightman (UK), Nicole Scherzinger (USA), St. Vincent (USA), Scorpions (Germany), The Chainsmokers (USA), HYDE (Japan), SUGIZO (Japan), SixTONES (Japan), Jane Zhang (China), and Lindsey Stirling (USA), as it crosses international borders and celebrates an array of diverse voices coming together at a time of universal upheaval.”

The international theatrical rollout for Yoshiki: Under the Sky is continuing, with the U.K. premiere happening last Friday, and the French premiere set to take place this Thursday. Yoshiki will be on hand for a special Q&A for the French premiere, as well as for the German premiere slated on Friday. He is also expected in New York City for the premiere there on Dec. 10.

A List Media previously teamed with Magnolia Pictures to release Stephen Kijak’s critically acclaimed 2016 documentary We Are X, about Yoshiki and X Japan. That film played in 30 countries and won awards at SXSW and the Sundance Film Festival.

The film is produced by Emmy Award winner and former A.M.P.A.S. President Sid Ganis (Iron Man, Akeelah and the Bee, The Making of Raiders of the Lost Ark), Emmy Award winner Mark Ritchie (Homecoming: A Film by Beyoncé, The Big Steppers Tour: Live from Paris), along with consulting producer Stephen Kijak (We Are X, Stones in Exile, Scott Walker: 30 Century Man).
