Advance tickets for the upcoming prequel “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” went on sale on November 1, and to celebrate, the film took over Times Square to reveal big news: triple Grammy winner Olivia Rodrigo penned and performed a new song, “Can’t Catch Me Now,” that will be featured in the film. Could she win the franchise its first Oscar? Watch the ad previewing the song above.

Lionsgate made the announcement on a billboard in Times Square in New York City during a one-hour event that streamed live on TikTok. But Rodrigo isn’t the first music star to contribute an original song to the “Hunger Games” franchise. Among other star recordings, the first film from 2012 featured Taylor Swift and The Civil Wars‘ “Safe and Sound,” which earned a Golden Globe nomination for Best Original Song. Coldplay contributed “Atlas” to “Catching Fire” and also picked up a Golden Globe nom. And Lorde recorded “Yellow Flicker Beat” for “Mockingjay — Part 1” and received, you guessed it, a Golden Globe bid. But none of those songs competed at the Oscars, which would make Rodrigo the first if she makes it onto the academy’s list.

“Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” director Francis Lawrence said in a statement, “From the very beginning of this franchise, we have been fortunate to attract some of the world’s most talented recording artists, whose music has accentuated and complemented the drama of the films while underscoring the emotional weight carried by the characters. With her highly charged lyrics and urgent voice, Olivia Rodrigo taps into all of that as much as any artist today. She’s an absolute thrill to work with and we couldn’t be more excited that her music is a part of the movie.”

“The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” opens on November 17.
