Thanks to “Oppenheimer,” Universal Pictures is one of the two studios tied for the most nominations at the 2024 Academy Awards in the top categories with a lucky 13 citations, all for the Christopher Nolan film. Searchlight Pictures also scored 13, earning a whopping 11 for Yorgos Lanthimos’ “Poor Things,” one for “Flamin’ Hot” for Oscar-favorite songwriter Diane Warren and one for Documentary Short Film for “The Last Repair Shop.” See a list of nominations by studio in the top categories below.

Other studios that broke double digits include Netflix and Apple Original Films. Netflix’s tally includes nominations for “Maestro” with seven, “Nyad” with two, and one each for “American Symphony,” “El Conde,” “May December,” “Nimona,” “Rustin,” and “The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar.” Note that these figures do not include all the contenders for the three short film categories. Apple Original Films earned all 10 of its nominations for Martin Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon.” The three nominations that “Napoleon” earned are credited to its United States theatrical distributor Columbia Pictures.

Warner Bros. Pictures had a strong showing for Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” with eight and one for “The Color Purple.” Had those films performed better — our odds were predicting Gerwig in Director and Margot Robbie in Actress, for example — the studio could have easily broken double-digits. A24 netted seven bids for “The Zone of Interest” and “Past Lives,” while three studios tie at five nominations each: Amazon MGM Studios for “American Fiction,” Neon for “Anatomy of a Fall” and Focus Features for “The Holdovers.”
