Oscar Isaac Says 'Star Wars: Episode VIII' Has Feel of an Indie, Thanks to Rian Johnson

Star Wars: Episode VIII so far has kept a tight lid on its secrets. While director Rian Johnson has shared some fun, only semi-revelatory pictures from the set, very little is known about the plot, theme, or tone of the follow-up to last year’s The Force Awakens. Thankfully, Poe Dameron has stepped up to fulfill the internet’s need to know some details, any details, about the film, currently in production in England.

In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Oscar Isaac – who plays Poe in Episodes VII and VIII, as well as your boyfriend in that dream you had last night after you fell asleep while listening to the Inside Llewyn Davis soundtrack – affirmed that this Jedi adventure is going to be out of the ordinary.

“Rian is definitely going to places and investigating things that haven’t really been done in the Star Wars universe,” he said. “For me, it’s so fun getting to explore different things that I wouldn’t have expected in this universe.”

“In some ways it feels like we’re making an independent film,“ he added. "Certain things we get to play with — this kind of intimacy that we get to find — it’s special.”

Following up the biggest money maker of all time with a movie that has an indie sensibility? Sounds like a reason to do a little dance. (P.S. No reason is ever technically needed to watch any GIF of Oscar Isaac busting a move; see above for proof.)
