‘The Orville’ Lands Season 2 at Fox

“The Orville” is setting phasers to renew.

Fox has picked up the sci-fi series from Seth MacFarlane for a second season, the network announced Thursday.

MacFarlane created the hour-long show that is produced by 20th Century Fox Television, and he stars as the captain of the eponymous space vessel.

“Once again, Seth has struck a powerful chord with viewers,” said Fox Broadcasting Company president of entertainment Michael Thorn. “He has delivered a series full of optimism, drama and his trademark humor. We want to thank him and the rest of the talented cast, as well as the producers and crew, for an incredible first season. We can’t wait to see where ‘The Orville’ travels in the second.”

Executive producers are MacFarlane, Brannon Braga (“Terra Nova”), David A. Goodman (“Family Guy”), Jason Clark (“Ted”) and Liz Heldens (“Mercy”).
