‘Orphan Black’: Helena Makes a Deadly Move in New Season 5 Clip

Seeing double is nothing new in the Orphan Black world — when it comes to a show about clones, déjà vu comes with the territory — but a new clip from the show’s fifth and final season gives it a deadly new twist.

In the scene, released Wednesday by BBC America, Helena (Tatiana Maslany) brings a knife into a church, walks up to a sole parishioner sitting in a pew, and plunges it into her back.

It’s a swift sneak attack, but what happens next is even more surprising: as the woman collapses to the ground, we see her face… and she’s a Leda clone, with the same face as Beth, Sarah, Helena, Alison, Cosima, and all the others we’ve met over the years.

When this scene is happening is unclear — it’s hard to tell if Helena is still pregnant with her twins — but the time period is far from the only question it raises. The look of shock on Helena’s face indicates she didn’t know this woman was a clone. So, who is she? Why was she there? And who did Helena think she was there to attack?

Series co-creator Graeme Manson previously told EW that the heart of this final season will be “wrapping up our sisters,” but left room for the potential for meeting more sestras — “perhaps there might be a little squeak of room for one more clone.”

“I think this season is really about freedom,” he added. “It’s the final season and the clone sisters have to be all-in. … So, it’s a year with a lot of the usual Orphan Black hijinks, but also, it’s a very, very, very important year for the relationship and the bonding and the freedom to move forward for the sisters.”

Orphan Black returns June 10 on BBC America. Watch the new clip above.
