EXCLUSIVE: Amazon MGM Studios’ Orion Pictures has entered production on Hedda, its reimagining of Henrik Ibsen’s famed 1891 stage play Hedda Gabler, announcing the addition of six to its cast. Newcomers include Imogen Poots (Baltimore), Tom Bateman (Thirteen Lives), Finbar Lynch (Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan), Mirren Mack (The Witcher: Blood Origins), Jamael Westman (Hamilton), and Saffron Hocking (Top Boy).

The actors join an ensemble that also includes Tessa Thompson, Nina Hoss, and Nicholas Pinnock, as previously announced.

More from Deadline

Ibsen’s Hedda Gabler revolves around Hedda Tesman, a newlywed stifled by societal norms. Frustrated and trapped, she resorts to manipulation and destructive actions. As secrets unravel, the play explores themes of power, gender roles, and the tragic consequences of societal expectations in the late 19th century.

Directing from her own script is Nia DaCosta, the filmmaker behind Uni’s newest Candyman horror pic and the acclaimed crime drama Little Woods. Producers include Plan B, DaCosta, Gabrielle Nadig, and Thompson via Viva Maude. Michael Constable is exec producing alongside Kishori Rajan for Viva Maude.

Best known for starring in films like Green Room, French Exit and Vivarium, Poots’ recent credits include indie thriller Baltimore and Amazon’s Outer Range, which has been renewed for a second season.

Previously appearing in Kenneth Branagh’s Agatha Christie pics Murder on the Orient Express and Death on the Nile, Bateman has also been seen in Ron Howard’s Thirteen Lives, Liam Neeson starrer Cold Pursuit, Snatched starring Amy Schumer and Goldie Hawn, and more. He’s also been seen on shows like Based on a True Story and Behind Her Eyes, among others.

Recently seen on Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, Lynch’s other most notable credits include Sarah Gavron’s Suffragette led by Carey Mulligan and Game of Thrones.

Mack’s been seen on Sex Education and The Witcher: Blood Origin, among other films and TV series.

Best known for playing the title role in the West End production of Hamilton, Westman can currently be seen in the romantic dramedy Good Grief, from actor-filmmaker Dan Levy, which debuted on Netflix on January 5. Past TV credits include The Essex Serpent and Anne Boleyn.

Earning a BAFTA nomination for her work on the acclaimed crime drama series Top Boy, Hocking was previously seen on Disney+’s Marvel series Moon Knight starring Oscar Isaac.

Poots is represented by WME, Entertainment 360, B-Side, and Yorn Levine; Bateman by CAA, United Agents, and Patti Felker; Lynch by 42; Mack by Independent Talent Group; Westman by CAA and Curtis Brown; and Hocking by Insight Management & Production and Anonymous Content.
