An official synopsis for the upcoming movie reads that the Spengler family unites "with the original Ghostbusters, who’ve developed a top-secret research lab to take busting ghosts to the next level," in Frozen Empire.

"But when the discovery of an ancient artifact unleashes an army of ghosts that casts a death chill upon the city, Ghostbusters new and old must join forces to protect their home and save the world from a second Ice Age," the synopsis reads.

The new movie is directed by Gil Kenan (2006's Monster House), who cowrote the script with Jason Reitman. Reitman, 46, is the son of the late Ivan Reitman, who directed the original Ghostbusters films. Ivan died at 75 in February 2022.
